Mukti - A journey for Nirvana

I’ve always looked out for pleasures while traveling. I mean, A/C, foldable seats and in-bus entertainment. Plus, I’ve always wished for a beautiful, single girl to sit beside me. No success there yet. God is not always gracious. I’m traveling in a Volvo bus for a motherjane show in SCH&HRD, Pune. I like to write stuff in my breath on the window. Like how the window becomes foggy when you blow at it. I’m also part lost in the thought on how I’ll be getting all the footage when motherjane will rock again.

Around 6 months ago, I was at a shoot near IIT. After completing my scene, me and my friend Sharran marched in to a festival going on in IIT. We were just walking by when we heard a very peculiar kind of music. It was not classic, but had Indian classical touch. It was rock, but didn’t quite sound that way. It was more of a melodious rock. I wanted to go in the show and check the band out; the time constraint pulled us right out of our tracks. We had to go back as another shot was getting ready.
2 weeks later, I found myself trying to find out what band was it that played the other night. I rung up some numbers, and the next day found out that the band was called “motherjane”. Are they from India? The name didn’t suggest that. Anyway, I googled “motherjane” and found out everything. They were ASIA’S NO.1 INTERNATIONAL ROCK ACT, and they were recruiting!!! I knew instantly, I had to do something. I didn’t think twice on what all will I have to do. I just applied and sent an email to that given mail address; man, am I glad I sent out that mail.

I haven’t been to many shows of motherjane as its just not possible some of the times. However, I’ve known them for 6 months now, been living with them, sharing food, drinks, laughs! And this is where it gets all weird. How can someone surprise you each and every time they do the same stuff?? I go all mad at a motherjane show. I don’t know how, but with them performing the same songs every time, I get different chills in me! I guess this is the best factor that motherjane has. They can sell you a pen when you own a pen factory. I’ve also come to know that motherjane’s fans connect to the band emotionally. There is a vibe going through them. I dream of times when motherjane will be on top of the rock scene and I find myself standing in the backstage getting amazed once more. Suraj (obviously doesn’t need intro) told me once while we were going to get a CD delivered to Ashish of LeRock, “Maktub, Sunny, Maktub”. It is written; great things have already happened in the future, we just have to work our way to that timeframe. My journey continues.

We all arrive at the college. Yet another amazing performance. I let myself free. Think of nothing else. Motherjane’s music drives me. People start jumping, I move away from my desk, take the camera out, getting the best I can get, I notice I have started getting the goosebumps, and then... it happens yet again…
